Other Work.

Seven engagements that sit outside the four big case studies. AAA games, VR training for the US military, defense concept work, and the freelance practice. Shorter engagements, same standard.

Player Experience QA·Epic Games·2017·Remote

Embedded on the live-service QA team for one of the largest games on earth. I pressure-tested the player experience layer, which meant hero loadouts, inventory, mission select and progression feedback, then translated the friction I saw into something the design team could actually act on.

This was Save the World, before anyone knew the name. Three months after my engagement ended Epic shipped Battle Royale as a free add-on. It hit 45 million players in 90 days, running on the systems I had been testing.

UX Consultant·Rockstar Games·Post-launch review

Rockstar brought me in after launch to evaluate what had shipped: what was working and should be preserved, where players hit friction, and which decisions were worth documenting for future updates. Four interface systems, annotated screen by screen.

The item wheel and inventory, the adaptive HUD, settings architecture, the controls submenu. It went over as an annotated evaluation with recommendations, not a list of complaints.

Scrum Master / Project Manager·Lazy Lion Games·Nov 2024 – Mar 2025·PC / Steam

A first-time studio, a fully remote team across six disciplines, and a debut title with no playbook to fall back on. I set up the Scrum rhythm from day one, made Jira the single source of truth, and triaged every new idea against the backlog so scope creep never interrupted an active sprint.

“Running Scrum on an indie game taught me that process isn't bureaucracy. It's the thing that keeps creative people free to actually create.”

Mass Virtual: a trainee in a VR headset behind the MassXR wordmark
+49%Engagement growth across active training cohorts post-launch

Mass Virtual

UX/UI Designer·MassXR·2021·US Air Force training

A C-17 flight simulator costs millions and the LMS managing it was a checkbox-driven form. I designed the gamified learning platform and the instructor dashboards sitting on top of it: mission briefings instead of modules, readiness gates instead of a completion list, and a momentum score both sides could read at a glance.

Two user types on one platform without it feeling split: the trainee needs it to feel like a game, the instructor needs it to feel like a command centre. Every mechanic was borrowed from military training culture, not from consumer games.

MERIDIAN Mission Telemetry: fleet list, tactical map, asset detail and an alert feed
6Assets tracked live across five panels, nominal to critical

Meridian
Mission Telemetry

Concept UX case study·Aerospace & Defense·Working prototype

A monitor-mode mission telemetry dashboard for tracking a UAV fleet in real time: fleet overview, tactical map, asset detail, alert feed and trend, all live at once. Built as a running prototype rather than a set of screens, with a guided walkthrough of the reasoning behind each panel.

Self-directed. Defense interfaces are the hardest brief I know, being dense, hostile to error and read under pressure, so I built one to find out where the real decisions live.

MERIDIAN Ground Control: navigation map with a waypoint track, flight controls and a sensor feed
3…2…1Counted confirmation before any command the operator can't take back

Meridian
Ground Control

Companion to 05·Aerospace & Defense·Working prototype

The other half of the pair. Where telemetry watches a fleet, this one flies a single aircraft: navigation map, EO/IR sensor feed, and flight controls, with every irreversible command sitting behind a counted confirmation gate.

It ships with a simulated emergency. Signal drops, link quality goes critical, the interface recommends return-to-base. A control surface is only really designed once you have watched it fail.

Freelance practice·Branding, web and digital presence·Ongoing

My freelance practice, for short-term contracts with small businesses: branding, web design, and getting a business a digital presence that looks like it was made on purpose. Small budgets, short runways, no design team to hand off to, which is its own kind of constraint.
